How does Gosforth Central Middle School support pupils with Special Educational Needs or disabilities?
Gosforth Central Middle School is a vibrant and diverse school that recognises the many additional needs pupils’ have. As a result we pride ourselves on the fact that we are a fully inclusive school, with the flexibility and understanding required to cater for the needs of all individuals. We endeavour to ensure that all pupils achieve to the best of their ability regardless of any disability or disadvantage they may have, be it socially, emotionally, physically or otherwise. We want all pupils to realise their potential during their time with us, and subsequently become valued members of their communities.
We aim to support any pupils with a special educational need and/or disability (SEND). Our approach is bespoke or needs based, as it is our belief that no two children are the same. We aim to achieve this through early identification (where appropriate) or close liaison with schools that transfer pupils to us. From that point we assess an individual’s needs and develop a provision map for that pupil with specific information and strategies. We also involve each recognised individual with interventions to specifically support them with the learning needs they have. We then regularly review that provision, taking the opinions of both parents and pupils to ensure that each individual gets the education they deserve – in short to quote our motto – we wish to ‘Build on Success.’
